Christmas in Ukraine

From Kolyadi Circle of Svarozhe twirls to Kolyadi — the circle of ceremonies is completed and all begins at first... and so without an end-edge. A circle of Svarozhe is a folk calendar which arrives at the depth of millenniums, when old ancestors of Ukrainians were a sunadmirers. Basis of their calendar was astronomic information, and main holidays were determined position of a Sun.

A sunadmirers-farmers tendon in harmony with nature, understood the dependence on nature cycles – consequently their method of thought and rhythm of life was determined a Sun and natural cycles. They created a space natural and simultaneously festively labour calendar their basic world view principles, their understanding of sense of life, determining Holidays and rite, were fastened in which – all, that was foundation of their life and made their Consuetude.

Christmas of God Kolyadi is birth of a young Sun, when winter solstice and day is closed begins to grow on.

Easter is a very old holiday which was engendered in times of the glorious Tripil'skoy culture. Cosmogony essence of this holiday was then determined already, there was his unique and richest rite, including celebration of Willow, painting of pisanok, baking round the loaf (Easter Grandmother) of bead and others like that. It was marked as sainted a Spring Sun and Nature which regenerated after winter sleep, as sainted Victories of Light over Darkness, Day above Night, light of Spring above darkness of the Winter.Easter has no attitude toward the holiday of PASKHI, which is related to the exit of yudeiv from Egyptian slavery.

Long time forbidden Ukrainians to carry on Send-offs round the Easter loaves of bead and easter eggs which was dedicated the souls of late Ancestors. Here as the known religious figure Ivan Vishenskiy wrote to the prince to Kostyantina Ostroz'kogo in 1599 р.: ”Pies and eggs are a tombstone everywhere liquidate”. Priests long time fought and with a “demon dances” – ceremonial actions spring-gaivok.

But afterwards, in place of that to conduct a fight, a christian church decided those folk ceremonies and consuetudes to apply.
